The Iowa Algebra Aptitude Test (IAAT) is a timed test that divides sixty questions into four subtests. The actual testing time is 40 minutes, and the time limit of each subtest is 10 minutes.
The four subtests are:
Pre-Algebraic Number Skills and Concepts – This subtest item measures a student’s computational skills, understanding of mathematical concepts, and ability to solve mathematics problems.
Using Symbols – This section measures how well students understand some of the essential symbols of algebra.
Representing Relationships – For each exercise in this part of the test, the student must find the rule that means the given numerical relationship. Some items present the relationship in table form, while others show the ties verbally.
Interpreting Mathematical Information – The items in this part are based on the information presented in graphs or definitions of mathematical terms or operations. The items assess how well a student can learn new material presented in graphs or text.
