TJ Score Booster Contents, Formats & Test Languages
First Round in Preparation for the Nov 9. 2019 TJ Admissions Test
Math Quant Q Mock Tests. These tests are proprietary materials and available on the dashboards of students who are enrolled in the class. We developed the questionnaires that simulate the Quant Q TJ Math test.
Reading Aspire Early High School (EHS) Mock Tests. The level of passages are 9th to 10th grade levels and some 11th grade passages. We match the depth of knowledge levels (DOK) of the Aspire standards. It will contain complex literary narratives (prose fiction or novel excerpts, memoirs, personal essays) and informational passages on Natural Science and Social Science (biographies, position papers, research summaries, essays, speeches, natural science and social science articles). There will be stand alone and paired passages that has multiple choice (single-choice and multi-select items) and three constructed response questions that they will see in Reading Aspire. Question categories include Key Ideas and Details, Craft and Structure and Integration of Knowledge and Ideas.

Science Aspire Early High School (EHS) Mock Tests. There will be 5 to 6 Science passages: 2 Research Summaries, 2 Data Representation and 1 Conflicting Viewpoints (most difficult for middle school students). Question categories include:
- Interpretation of Data (IOD): Locating & Understanding, Inferring & Translating and Extending & Reevaluating
- Scientific Investigation (SIN): Locating & Comparing, Designing & Implementing, Extending & Improving
- Evaluation of Models, Inferences and Experimental Results (EMI): Inferences & Results, Evaluating & Extending
There will be 35 multiple choice questions and 5 to 7 constructed responses questions.
Please review the strategies that you learned in our TJ Comprehensive and TJ Science Intensive Classes. The difficulty level of the TJ Score Booster is the same as the TJ Comprehensive Science Mock 3, Intensive 1 & 2 end-of-courses Science Aspire EHS mock tests.
Choose your weekends. You can attend only one weekend or several weekends depending on your strengths and needs.
Second Round in Preparation for the Feb 8, 2020 Test
Experience a simulated essay testing scenario. Respond to 4 prompts (one Math Problem Solving and three SIS) written by YSC teachers similar to retired TJ prompts. Discuss it with two writing teachers (Scribner and Cart) afterwards.

Weekends to choose from (2nd Round Mock Test) in preparation for the Feb 8, 2020 test:
Each session contains one Math Problem Solving and three SIS Prompts (4 prompts in total). The first two hours is testing and the last hour is discussion.
Three Sundays from 3:30 to 6:30pm and one Monday from 5:30 to 8:30pm. This is a stand-alone class to build your student’s stamina, test taking skills and automaticity. There is NO repetition of essay prompts.

Session 3 – Jan 26, 2020, Sunday from 3:30 to 6:30 pm

How does it work?
First Round: Students will take the paper tests on Saturday nights. After the timed tests, students enter their answers online before leaving the room. A fully charged laptop is always required to enter their answers online. All paper tests cannot be taken home. However, students can review their answers in different question categories on their dashboards.
Timed Tests: Saturday mornings from 8:00 am to 11:00 am (similar to the time of the actual TJ test).
Class Discussion on Sundays from 5:00 to 7:00pm (discussion with Reading, Science & Math teachers).
Second Round: Students will take the tests online using their own fully-charged laptops. It will be followed by an hour of discussion. Teachers: Dr. Sherlie Scribner and Krishna Cart.
